Published by A. Millar, in London, in 1749, in 6 volumes, as a second edition of 1500 copies, after the first edition of 2000 were sold out pre-publication. Both the first and second editions were printed in 1749 about a month apart and sold out fast. After selling 10000 copies it became the first “bestseller” and has been in print ever since.
This is a truly handsome set of one of the great masterpieces of English Literature.
The binding is in fine to very fine condition. The book has beautifully marbled endpapers.
