Kem Kem Fossils
The Kem Kem fossil beds date back to the cretaceous period. A variety of dinosaur fossils can be found in this geological area on the border of Morocco and Algeria. Changing geological activity in this area has brought together a number of fossils from dinosaurs and mammals that might have at one time preferred separate habitats. This shifting geography has led to a number of interesting and unique fossil digs in the Kem Kem beds.
The sandstone of the Kem Kem beds from which these fossils are dug create a unique finish that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Fossils from Kem Kem dig sites are prized for their unique finishes and are primarily dug up by professionally trained locals who have found work on dig sites.
